NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-Prior to their softball games this weekend, the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's softball team will be active on campus as they participate in the annual UMass Dartmouth Relay for Life Friday evening and Saturday morning.
The Relay for Life is a traditional event held at UMass Dartmouth in memory of those who have lost their battle with cancer, and to support those who are battling cancer. The opening ceremonies take place on the campus quad at 6:00 p.m. Friday April 15th, and the relay goes on throughout the night.
"We wanted to do it as a team," said softball team manager Breanna Marcyoniak, who is coordinating the team's participation. "You set up a camp site in the quad and stay there Friday and into Saturday morning, and you also have a fund raiser to raise money for the Relay for Life."
Marcyoniak is a veteran of the Relay for Life, having participated last year. "Last year, I did it, not as a member of a team, but by myself," said Marcyoniak. "This year, I asked the team, and everyone said they wanted to do it, so I signed up as the team captain."
