NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's swimming team swept visiting Gordon a dual meet at the Tripp Athletic Center Tuesday evening. The Corsair women won, 127-83, and the Corsair men won, 132-112.
The women won 15 of 16 events. The 200 yard medley relay team of senior Meredith Maki (Holden, MA/Wachusett Regional HS), junior Maggie Conlon (Methuen, MA/Methuen HS), sophomore Morgan Cooper (Sunderland, MA/Frontier Regional HS) and freshman Leslie Martin (Pittsfield, MA/Pittsfield HS) won in a season best 2:02.18. Multiple event winners included senior Kim Moore (Billerica, MA/Billerica HS), who won the 1000 yard freestyle and the 500 yard freestyle, Conlon, who took the 50 yard backstroke and 50 yard butterfly, Maki, who won the 200 yard freestyle and 100 yard backstroke, junior Lindsay Days (Mattapoisett, MA/Bishop Stang HS), who won the 50 yard breaststroke and 100 yard breaststroke, and freshman Brooke Garvey (Billerica, MA/Billerica HS), who won both the one meter and three meter diving.
For the men, multiple winners included freshman Edward Olean (Seekonk, MA/Seekonk HS), who won the 200 yard freestyle, the 100 yard butterfly and the 100 yard backstroke, junior Kevin Janofsky (Brookfield, CT/Brookfield HS), who won the 50 yard freestyle and the 100 yard freestyle, and sophomore Christian Francia (Hampton, NH/Winnacunnet HS) , who won both the one meter and three meter diving.
"We are wrapping our last week of intersession training, heading into taper week," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Cathy Motta. "We are excited to have most of the team participating at the New England Swimming Championships in Vermont and the diving championships here at UMass Dartmouth."
UMass Dartmouth's women are now 3-5, while the UMD men are 2-3-1. The Gordon women are now 0-10, while the men are now 0-8.
The Corsairs will return to action when they host WPI Thursday evening, while the Scots will host St. Joseph's (Maine) February 4th.
