BRIDGEWATER, MA- The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's swimming team placed third in their season-opening meet Saturday, the Michael Arsenault Memorial Relays, hosted by Bridgewater State at the Dr. Mary Jo Moriarty Pool.
The Corsairs were third in the four-team meet with 238 points. Colby-Sawyer finished first overall.
Winners for the Corsair women included the 400 medley relay team of seniors Meredith Maki (Holden, MA/Wachusett Regional HS) and Lindsay Days (Mattapoisett, MA/Bishop Stang HS), freshman Caroline Corcoran (West Boylston, MA/West Boylston HS) and junior Katelyn Kidney (Lynn, MA/Lynn Classical HS), who won in 4:23.35 and the 400 butterfly relay team of Corcoran, junior Abbey Prives (Wellesley, MA/Wellesley HS), Kidney and sophomore Ally McCarville (Stoneham, MA/Stoneham HS) in 4:47.33. For the men, victors included the 400 medley relay team of freshman Robert Braza (Attleboro, MA/ Attleboro HS), sophomore Phil Lowney (Mattapoisett, MA/Bishop Stang HS), sophomore Michael Gryss (New Bedford, MA/New Bedford HS), and senior Kevin Janofsky (Brookfield, CT/Brookfield HS), who were first in 4:06.50, the 4 x 100 individual medley team of Braza, Gryss, Janofsky and freshman Bryan Baranick (Assonet, MA/Apponequet HS), the 400 butterfly relay team of junior Julian Jiminian (Springfield, MA/Renaissance HS), sophomore Anthony Peixoto (New Bedford, MA/New Bedford HS), Gryss and Baranick, who were victorious in 4:18.87, and the 400 breaststroke relay team of junior David Geib (Hildesheim, Germany/Hermann Nohl HS), Peixoto, Lowney and Janofsky, who won in 4:55.56.
"We had great swims today," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Cathy Motta. The experience of a relay meet to kick off the season was great for the team.
The Corsairs will return to action when they visit Babson next Saturday.
