Head Swimming Coach Cathy Motta to be Honored

NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA - The head coach of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's women's swimming team is about to receive a prestigious honor.

Cathy Motta will receive an award for Meritorious Service from the Eastern Massachusetts Interscholastic Swim Coaches Academy. The award will be presented tomorrow, Thursday, April 11th, at the Chateau Restaurant in Waltham, MA.

Motta was nominated for the award by Dave Ponte, the head swimming and lacrosse coach at Bishop Stang High School.

"I nominated Cathy for the award for all she does for local high school swimming," said Ponte. "Cathy has helped provide both Stang and Old Rochester Regional High School with a facility for their programs, helped to host the Southern Conference Championships, and has provided hundreds of student-athletes with positive experiences they will cherish forever."

"Cathy has been a great friend of high school swimming for more than 10 years, and she's been gracious enough to let us host the conference championships at UMass Dartmouth. She was also instrumental in helping ORR start their program, and in helping provide great experiences for hundreds of student-athletes that will positively impact their careers."
