Swimming and Diving Edged by Babson
NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth women's swimming and diving team edged by Babson College 115-111 at the Tripp Athletic Center on Saturday afternoon.
The 400 yard freestyle relay team comprised of Kaya Flanagan (Fairhaven, Mass.), Yulyssa Diaz (Dorchester, Mass.), Arpeni Mael (Glendale, Cali.) and Cori Spagna (Raynham, Mass.) placed first with a time of 4:23.09. In the 200 yard freestyle, Flanagan torched the competition and posted a first place time of 2:09.56. The freshman from Fairhaven was 1.02 seconds away from finishing first in three events as she placed second in the 50 yard freestyle. Sharing the spotlight with Flanagan was classmate Diaz, who finished second in the 100 yard freestyle and third in the 200 yard individual medley. Senior Katelyn Kidney (Lynn, Mass.) took home second place in the 100 yard butterfly and the 500 yard freestyle.
Kendra Hebert (Lowell, Mass.) and Brooke Garvey (North Billerica, Mass.) represented the Corsairs in the one meter and three meter diving events. Hebert scored a 180.90 in the one meter and a 162.40 in the three meter, while Garvey recorded a 149.45 and a 158.95. Babson did not have any participants in the event.
UMass Dartmouth hosts the University of New England next Saturday at 1 p.m.
