Annapolis, Md. – Junior Michael Gryss (New Bedford, Mass.) and senior Katelyn Kidney (Lynn, Mass.) represented the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth men's and women's swimming teams at the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships this past weekend at the U.S. Naval Academy.
Gryss posted a time of 54.56 seconds in the men's 100 yard butterfly and 1:03.01 in the 100 breaststroke preliminary heats on Saturday. On Feb. 14, the junior made the ECAC B cut when he produced a sixth place time of 54.28 in the 100 yard butterfly event during day one of competition at the New England Intercollegiate Swimming &Diving Association (NEISDA) Div. II/III Championships. The following day, Gryss swam the 100 breaststroke event in 1.01.56 and placed eighth to make the ECAC B qualifying time.
Kidney competed in the women's 200 yard butterfly and touched the wall at 2:12.60 during the preliminary heats on Sunday. At the NEISDA Championships on Feb. 16, the senior qualified for the ECAC Championships when she produced a first place time of 2:12.10 in the 200 yard butterfly.
The ECAC Championships close out the 2013-14 men's and women's swimming and diving seasons for UMass Dartmouth.
