WALTHAM, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth men's and women's swimming and diving teams competed against Bentley University on Wednesday evening.
The women fell to the Falcons by a score of 138 to 86. Sophomore Kaya Flanagan (Fairhaven, Mass.) captured one of four events for the Corsairs. In the 100 yard backstroke, she took the top honor with a time of 1:05.27. The Fairhaven, Mass. product also finished runner-up in the 100 yard butterfly, as she touched the wall a little over a second after Bentley's Kelly Culkin. Freshman Chrissy Deveaux (North Andover, Mass.) was victorious in the 100 yard breaststroke, covering the distance in 1:15.16.
The 200 yard freestyle relay team comprised of freshman Jenna Leanues (Lakeville, Mass.), junior Cori Spagna (Raynham, Mass.), senior Ally McCarville (Stoneham, Mass.) and sophomore Kendra Hebert (Lowell, Mass.) teamed up to trip the timer in two minutes and 29-seconds. In the three-meter diving event, Hebert produced a first place score of 202.79 and generated a second place finish off the one-meter board (212.10).
For the men, who were defeated 134-71, senior Michael Gryss (New Bedford, Mass.) highlighted the Corsairs by winning two events. Gryss out-swam the competition in the 100 yard butterfly (56.95) and the 100 yard breaststroke (1:04.40).
The 200 yard freestyle relay team of junior Kevin Curley (Raynham, Mass.), Brian McCauley (Franklin, Mass.), freshman Derek Marshall (Marion, Mass.) and senior TL Doucette, Jr. (Middleboro, Mass.) won the only other event for UMass Dartmouth, with a time of one minute and 38-seconds.
Both teams have a two-day break before the Corsairs compete at 1 pm against Elms College on Saturday, Nov. 22.
