DARTMOUTH, Mass. -- Sophomore Kaya Flanagan (Fairhaven, Mass.) registered three top-five finishes to lead the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth women's swimming and diving team against Wheaton College (Mass.) and WPI this evening at the Tripp Athletic Center.
The Corsairs were swept by the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) foes, falling to the Engineers (166 - 64) and Lyons (172.50 - 65.50).
Flanagan continued her strong winter by recording top-five finishes in three different disciplines. The sophomore from Fairhaven, Mass. clocked a time of one minute, 4.39 seconds to place second in the 100-yard backstroke. She was fourth in the 100-yard butterfly (1:04.67) and fifith in the 200-yard IM (2:23.87).
Freshman Chrissy Deveaux (North Andover, Mass.) also produced a second-place performance, when she touched the wall at 11 minutes, 12.59 seconds in the 1,000-yard freestyle. She demonstrated her versatility by placing third in the 500-yard freestyle (5:33.54) and fifth in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:15.46).
Sophomore Yulyssa Diaz (Dorchester, Mass.) was sixth in the 100-yard freestyle (1:00.68) to help contribute to the UMass Dartmouth scoring total.
In the diving well, senior Brooke Garvey (Billerica, Mass.) posted a personal-best in her final home competition of her career on the three-meter board. Garvey was second in the five-person field with a combined score of 205.40 points. She also placed fourth on the one-meter board (178.35). Sophomore Kendra Hebert (Lowell, Mass.) nearly reached the 200-point barrier on the shorter plank (199.95) to place third.
UMass Dartmouth will return to action at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 24, when the Corsairs travel to Plymouth State University.
