How it Happened
The senior Corsair duo of Yulyssa Diaz (Dorchester, Mass.) and Kaya Flanagan (Fairhaven, Mass.) set the pace for the women's team, each collecting three individual event wins and a relay victory on the meet. Diaz secured three freestyle events, including the 1,000, 100 and 500-yard varieties, with comfortable margins of victory in all three. She and relay teammates Carly Cahill (Charlestown, Mass.), Abigail Wilson (Newburyport, Mass.) and Chrissy Deveaux (North Andover, Mass.) closed out the meet on a high note, winning the 400-yard free relay in 4:03.26.
Flanagan teamed with Wilson, Sarah Murphy (Braintree, Mass.) and Brienna Harrison (Lakeville, Mass.) to shave two seconds off the seed time in the 200-yard medley relay, finishing in 2:00.88 before swimming to first place in the 200-yard butterfly, 200-yard backstroke and 100-yard butterfly.
In the men's freestyle events, UMass Dartmouth saw freshman David Adamski (Wilbraham, Mass.) again set the tone. Adamski improved his times in both the 200-yard free, finishing in 1:49.29, and the 500-yard version in 5:08.32. He also claimed the win in the 100-yard free.
Harrison and Deveaux both gathered two more individual titles for the women, as Harrison shaved a second off her time in the 100-yard backstroke to 1:06.18before winning the 50-yard free. Deveaux prevailed in the 200-yard free, where she bested the field by five seconds, and the 200-yard breast.
On the men's side, senior Kevin Curley (Raynham, Mass.) anchored the 200-yard medley relay quartet with Derek Marshall (Marion, Mass.), Troy Sjahfiedin (Mattapoisett, Mass.) and Devin Farnsworth (Leominster, Mass.) to a season-best time of 1:43.82, before sprinting to a 22.67 win in the 50-yard free. UMass Dartmouth's Stephen Barrett (Longmeadow, Mass.) and Brian McCauley (Franklin, Mass.) then wrapped up a 1-2 finish in the 1,000-yard freestyle, tripping the timer at 11:17.42 and 11:32.23, respectively.
Both UMass Dartmouth teams remain at home on Saturday, as the Corsairs will host the annual Louise Goodrum Invitational beginning at 12 p.m. in the Tripp Center Natatorium.
