BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The UMass Dartmouth men’s & women’s swimming teams opened their respective 2018-19 seasons on Friday evening with a pair of top two performances at the Bridgewater State Arsenault Relays that took place at the Moriarty Pool.
The Corsair men’s squad captured top honors in the event for the first time, as UMass Dartmouth topped the host Bears by eight points (118-110) while upending third place UMass Lowell by 12 points in the final standings. Junior David Adamski (Wilbraham, Mass.) and freshman Luc Durand (Belmont, Mass.) recorded a trio of triumphs on the night for the Corsairs, who claimed top honors in five total events in the competition.
Durand, Adamski and sophomores Justin Chung (Roslindale, Mass.) and Noah Yeskewicz (Middleboro, Mass.) posted a winning time of 3:51.18 in the 400 yard medley, while Adamski anchored the winning 200 yard freestyle medley time of 1:34.24 that included that tandem of juniors Kyle MacKenzie (Londonderry, N.H.) and Stephen Barrett (Longmeadow, Mass.) along with freshman Eric Worden (Portland, Maine).
Worden, Durand, Yeskewicz and freshman Gregory Yao (Acton, Mass.) captured first place in the 300 crescendo butterfly relay in a time of 2:50.24 for UMass Dartmouth, while the quartet of Yao, Chung, senior Anthony Toscano (Massapequa, N.Y.) and freshman Nathan Motisi (Ellington, Conn.) was victorious in the 300 crescendo breaststroke relay with a mark of 3:23.20. Durand, MacKenzie, Motisi and Adamski teamed up for the final win of the night for the Corsairs in the 400 freestyle in a time of 3:26.45.
On the women’s side, UMass Dartmouth finished as the runner-up to Bridgewater State (162-86) and topped UMass Lowell by 28 points, as junior Sarah Murphy (Braintree, Mass.) was a triple-winner on the night and helped lead the Corsairs to four overall victories in the competition. Murphy, juniors Abigail Wilson (Newburyport, Mass.) and Molly Harrington (Tewksbury, Mass.), along with freshman Maddie Kovach (Oxford, Conn.), teamed up to take both the 400 medley relay and 200 yard medley in respective times of 4:31.62 and 2:02.59.
The tandem of Murphy, juniors Alissa Hall (Westboro, Mass.) and Kayla Lovy (Londonderry, N.H.) as well as sophomore Tara Clark (Southgate, Mich.) won the 400 4 x 100 individual medley relay with a time of 4:46.79 for UMass Dartmouth, which also received a victory in the 100 freestyle relay from the quartet of Lovy, Hall, sophomore Rebecca Vermette (Southbridge, Mass.) and freshman Olivia Shaw (Middleboro, Mass.) in a time of 55.26.
Both Corsair squads return to action on Saturday, October 20th by heading to Bristol, R.I. to compete at the Roger Williams Commonwealth Coast Invitational that begins at 1:00 pm.
