NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's women's swimming team dropped their final home meet of the season, falling to visiting Eastern Connecticut States, 159-108 at the Tripp Athletic Center Saturday.]
Winners for the Corsairs included sophomore Morgan Cooper (Sunderland, MA/Frontier Regional HS), who won the 100 yard butterfly in 1:06.01, sophomore Meredith Maki (Holden, MA/Wachusett Regional HS), who won the 1650 yard freestyle in 20:31.82, and sophomore Cecilia Rius (Rockville, MD/Richard Montgomery HS), who took both the one meter diving (192.60 points), and the three meter diving (191.25 points).
"It was our last home meet of the season, so we decided to focus on allowing our swimmers to compete in events that they hoping to qualify for championships in, instead of using a head to head lineup. Eastern has a very strong program, and we knew that we could have some great head to head races. We did have two more swimmers qualify for the New England Championships, with three more meets to go. We are looking forward to seeing how fast we swim once we go back to single practices next week."
UMass Dartmouth's women are now 2-5, while Eastern Connecticut is now 5-2. The Corsairs will return to action when they visit WPI Thursday evening. The Warriors will host Roger Williams next Saturday.
