WHITE RIVER JUNCTION, VT-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's swimming team did well on the first day of action at the three-day New England Intercollegiate Swimming and Diving Association Championships at the Upper Valley Aquatic Center here Friday.
After the first session, the women are 10th with 160 points, while the men are fifth with 132 points.
For the women, sophomore Meredith Maki (Holden, MA/Wachusett Regional HS) was 14th in the 500 freestyle in 5:35.16, sophomore Morgan Cooper (Sunderland, MA/Frontier Regional HS) was 20th in the 100 butterfly in 1:06.25, junior Kim Moore (Billerica, MA/Billerica HS) was 15th in the 500 freestyle in 5:39.38, sophomore Lindsay Days (Mattapoisett, MA/Bishop Stang HS) was 15th in the 50 yard breast stroke in 34.48 seconds and freshman Kerryn Kane (Arlington, MA/Arlington HS) 17th in 35.54 seconds, senior Lindsay Little (Danvers, MA/Danvers HS) was 24th in the 50 freestyle in 27.60 seconds and junior Brittany Dupuis (Milford, MA/Milford HS) was 30th in 28.00 seconds, senior Amanda Beahn (Worcester, MA/Doherty Memorial HS) was 27th in the 200 backstroke in 2:26.38, and the 400 medley relay team of Maki, sophomore Maggie Conlon (Methuen, MA/Methuen HS), Cooper and Little was 12th in 4:26.28. For the men, senior Craig Johnson (Acushnet, MA/New Bedford HS) was sixth in the 50 freestyle in 21.93 seconds and fourth in the 100 butterfly in 51.92 seconds, senior David Adams (Tyngsboro, MA/Tyngsboro HS) was 11th in the 100 butterfly in 56.19 seconds and 14th in the 50 freestyle in 22.91 seconds, sophomore Matt Dean (Londonderry, NH/Londonderry HS) was fifth in the 50 breast stroke in 28.47 seconds, senior Andrew Haughey (West Springfield, MA/West Springfield HS) was 23rd in the 100 butterfly in 1:00.31, junior Nick Poliseno (Brockton, MA/Brockton HS) was 16th in the 200 backstroke in 2:20.57 and junior Cameron Secrest (Wellesley, MA/Wellesley HS) was 17th in 2:21.29, sophomore Kevin Janofsky (Brookfield, CT/Brookfield HS) was 14th in the 200 individual medley in 2:12.17, and junior Tom Silva (Seekonk, MA/Seekonk HS) was 22nd in the 50 freestyle in 23.81 seconds. The 400 medley relay team of freshman Eric Frohman (Woodbridge, CT/Amity HS), Dean, Johnson and Adams was fourth in 3:22.83.
"We had some great swims today," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Cathy Motta. "Craig Johnson made ECAC "A" cuts in the 100 butterfly and the 50 freestyle, and David Adams made ECAC "B" cuts in the 100 fly and the 50 free. We're doing well and hope to continue tomorrow."
The championships will continue Saturday and conclude Sunday.
UMASS DARTMOUTH SWIMMING
