Swimmers Move on at NEISDA Championships

WHITE RIVER JUNCTION, VT-Eight University of Massachusetts Dartmouth swimmers and two relay teams advanced to the finals on the third and final day of action at the three-day New England Intercollegiate Swimming and Diving Association Division II and III Championships at the Upper Valley Aquatic Center Sunday.
Meanwhile, three Corsairs placed in the 1650 freestyle. In the women's 1650 freestyle, sophomore Michelle Favulli (Shrewsbury, MA/Shrewsbury HS) was eighth in 20:14.77, while senior Colleen Foley (East Lyme, CT/East Lyme HS) was 14th in 20:47.91. Freshman Joshua Poctner (Brockton, MA/Cardinal Spellman HS) was 11th in the men's 1650 freestyle in 19:53.87.
On the women's side, freshman Morgan Cooper (Sunderland, MA/Frontier Regional HS) qualified for the finals by finishing 16th in the 100 freestyle in 58.07 seconds, freshman Meredith Maki (Holden, MA/Wachusett Regional HS) was 16th in the 50 yard backstroke in 31.56 seconds, senior Kathleen Foley (Haverhill, MA/Haverhill HS) was ninth in 200 breaststroke in 2:39.73, and the 400 freestyle relay team of freshman Maggie Conlon (Methuen, MA/Methuen HS), Maki, Foley and Cooper was 12th in 3:55.85.
For the men, junior Craig Johnson (Acushnet, MA/New Bedford HS) was seventh in the 200 yard butterfly in 2:08.16, freshman Jake Pesante (Wakefield, RI/South Kingston HS) was 11th in the 100 yard freestyle relay in 50.95 seconds, freshman Chris Dodge (Holden, MA/Wachusett Regional HS) was ninth in the 50 yard backstroke in 26.90 seconds, junior David Lyons (Haverhill, MA/Central Catholic HS) was ninth in the 100 yard individual medley in 59.40 seconds and freshman Matt Dean (Londonderry, NH/Londonderry HS) was 10th in 59.79 seconds, and the 400 freestyle relay team of Pesante, junior Andrew Haughey (West Springfield, MA/West Springfield HS), junior Steve Szarek (Middletown, CT/Middletown HS) and Johnson was seventh in 3:26.77.
