WHITE RIVER JUNCTION, VT-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth men's swimming team finished fourth and the women finished 12th as the three-day New England Intercollegiate Swimming and Diving Association Division II and III Championships at the Upper Valley Aquatic Center Sunday.
The men scored 256 points and finished fourth in a 13-team field, while the women scored 280 points and were 12th in a field of 22 teams. Keene State finished first in both competitions, and UMass Dartmouth Diving Coach Danielle Morley was honored as Men's Diving Coach of the Year.
On the women's side, in the 1650 freestyle, sophomore Kim Moore ((Billerica, MA/Billerica HS) was fourth in 18:53.04, sophomore Michelle Favulli (Shrewsbury, MA/Shrewsbury HS) was eighth in 20:14.77, and senior Colleen Foley (East Lyme, CT/East Lyme HS) was 14th in 20:47.91. Freshman Morgan Cooper (Sunderland, MA/Frontier Regional HS) was 15th in the 100 freestyle in 57.69 seconds, freshman Meredith Maki (Holden, MA/Wachusett Regional HS) was 18th in the 50 yard backstroke in 31.31 seconds, senior Kathleen Foley (Haverhill, MA/Haverhill HS) was eighth in the 200 breaststroke in 2:39.16, and the 400 freestyle relay team of freshman Maggie Conlon (Methuen, MA/Methuen HS), Maki, Foley and Cooper was 11th in 3:52.67.
For the men, freshman Joshua Poctner (Brockton, MA/Cardinal Spellman HS) was 17th in the men's 1650 freestyle in 19:53.87. junior Craig Johnson (Acushnet, MA/New Bedford HS) was eighth in the 200 yard butterfly in 2:09.57, freshman Jake Pesante (Wakefield, RI/South Kingston HS) was 12th in the 100 yard freestyle relay in 50.22 seconds, freshman Chris Dodge (Holden, MA/Wachusett Regional HS) was 11th in the 50 yard backstroke in 27.23 seconds, junior David Lyons (Haverhill, MA/Central Catholic HS) was 11th in the 100 yard individual medley in 1:00.31, and freshman Matt Dean (Londonderry, NH/Londonderry HS) was12th in 1:00.50, and the 400 freestyle relay team of Pesante, junior Andrew Haughey (West Springfield, MA/West Springfield HS), Lyons and Johnson was seventh in 3:22.18.
The Corsairs will travel to the ECAC Championships next weekend.
