NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's women's swimming team finished fifth of eight teams in the 2011 Little East Conference championships at the Tripp Athletic Center Saturday.
The Corsairs scored 160 points. Keene State finished first with 588 points.
Sophomore Katelyn Kidney (Lynn, MA/Lynn Classical/Bryant) finished second in the 200 freestyle in 2:01.06, second in the 200 butterfly in 2:14.18, and third in the 500 freestyle in 5:22.41. Sophomore Morgan Cooper (Sunderland, MA/Frontier Regional HS), finished fourth in the 200 freestyle in 2:02.47 and sixth in the 100 butterfly in 1:04.92. Junior Meredith Maki (Holden, MA/Wachusett Regional) took third in the 200 IM in 2:19.94 and sixth in the 200 backstroke in 2:19.36. The relay team of Kidney, Cooper, Maki and freshman Leslie Martin (Pittsfield, MA/Pittsfield HS) finished third in the 400 freestyle in 3:52.23.
"We had one of our best performances in years," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Cathy Motta. "It was a great experience coaching these young ladies today. They we full of excitement and competed with all of their hearts today."
The Corsairs remain 1-3 on the season. They will return to action when they visit Regis College on Friday.
