Three Earn LEC Women's Tennis Honors
Sophomore Allison Furtado
NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-Three members of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's women's tennis team have earned post-season honors from the Little East Conference.
Sophomore Allison Furtado (Fairhaven, MA/Fairhaven HS) was named second team All-Conference at number four singles, while freshman Hannah Schulze (Chelmsford, MA/Chelmsford HS) and junior Liz Girczyc (Attleboro, MA/Attleboro HS) were named second team All-LEC at number three doubles.
Furtado was 8-3 overall in singles, 5-2 against conference opponents. She was 5-1 at number four singles and 0-1 at number three singles in conference play. Schulze and Girczyc were 10-3 overall in doubles, 5-2 against LEC foes. They were 4-1 at number three doubles and 1-1 at number two doubles against conference opponents.
"Allison played well for us all year," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Ralph Perry. "She played up on a number of occasions, we could always count on her to come through, and she was also a good, strong doubles player with her partner, (sophomore) Angela Pollard (Portsmouth, RI/Portsmouth HS).
"Hannah and Liz played well together," said Perry. "They complemented each other well, with Hannah having an excellent net game, and Liz more or less taking the backcourt. They beat a very good Bridgewater team twice, and I could always depend on them to play good, solid tennis." The Corsairs finished the season with a 9-5 record, were fourth in the LEC and advanced to the semi-finals of the conference tournament.
