SALEM, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth women's tennis team opened its Little East Conference schedule with a convincing 9-0 victory over Salem State University Saturday afternoon at the Central Campus Tennis Courts.
The victory in the Little East Conference opener for both teams improves the Corsairs to 2-0, while the Vikings fell to 0-2.
Freshman Jenna Lahaie (Lakeville, Mass.) went 2-0 on the day, defeating April McDermott (Tewskbury, Mass.), 6-3, 6-4 in first singles and teamed up with Kerry Magoon (Marshfield, Mass.) at second doubles for an 8-4 win over Hillary Gustafson (Belchertown, Mass.) and Ann Spence (Attleboro, Mass.). Magoon also scored a 6-2, 6-2 win at second singles.
Maggie LeBrun (Mattapoisett, Mass.) beat Gustafson, 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3 and picked up a victory at top-flight doubles with Kaela Dunn (North Attleboro, Mass.). Kristen Rose (North Dartmouth, Mass.), Mollie McCaffrey (Taunton, Mass.), and Samantha Rollings (Tiverton, R.I.) all won at fourth through sixth singles with Rose and McCaffrey also taking third doubles to complete the sweep.
UMass Dartmouth will return to action at 3:30 p.m. on Sept. 15, when the Corsairs host Suffolk University.
