DARTMOUTH, Mass. -- Salem State received wins in singles and doubles play from four different individuals to post a 7-2 Little East Conference women’s tennis victory over UMass Dartmouth Saturday afternoon on the UMD Courts.
Senior Maddie Allaire (Columbus, Ohio), juniors Anastasia Startseva (Volgograd, Russia) and Meredith MacDonald (Lynn, Mass.) and sophomore Caroline Robitaille (South Hadley, Mass.) all triumphed in singles action for the visiting Vikings (5-3, 4-1 LEC), as Startseva and MacDonald each overcame third set deficits at the number one and four positions, respectively. Startseva and Allaire teamed up for an 8-3 win at number one doubles for Salem State, while MacDonald and senior Kristin Klimowicz (Ipswich, Mass.) notched an 8-4 victory at the number two spot. The visitors completed their doubles sweep after receiving an 8-4 triumph from Robitaille and sophomore Hannah Dahrouge (South Hadley, Mass.) at the number three position.
Junior Monika Reining (Linsengericht, Germany) and sophomore Emma Sokolovsky (Canton, Mass.) accounted for the lone points of the day in the setback for the host Corsairs (4-4, 2-3 LEC), as the duo recorded straight set wins at the number five and six singles spots.
UMass Dartmouth travels to Danbury, Conn. on Sunday afternoon to take on Western Connecticut in a Little East Conference dual-match that begins at 1:00 pm, while Salem State hosts UMass Boston in a Little East dual-match on Tuesday afternoon in Salem, Mass. beginning at 3:00 pm.
