DARTMOUTH, Mass. -- The UMass Dartmouth women’s tennis team swept a 9-0 Little East Conference dual-match decision from UMass Boston Saturday afternoon on the UMD Courts.
Senior Jenna Lahaie (Lakeville, Mass.) posted her 40th career singles win with a straight-set triumph at the number one spot for the host Corsairs (8-4, 5-3 LEC), who also received straight set singles victories from juniors Jaime Fastino (Rehoboth, Mass.) and Monika Reining (Linsengericht, Germany) as well as sophomores Michelle Aftandilian (Watertown, Mass.) and Emma Sokolovsky (Canton, Mass.). Sophomore Rachel Aftandilian (Watertown, Mass.) overcame a first set win by freshman Chloe Gates (Plymouth, Mass.) of the visiting Beacons (0-7, 0-6 LEC) and rallied for a three-set triumph that included a 10-7 decision in the pro set.
Lahaie claimed her 39th career doubles win after teaming up with Fastino for an 8-1 triumph at the number one position for UMass Dartmouth, which has won four straight and seven of its last nine dual-match decisions. Reining and junior Natasha Shiku (North Grafton, Mass.) recorded an 8-3 win at the number two spot for the hosts, who received an 8-2 victory from Michelle Aftandilian and fellow sophomore Jordan Martin (Taunton, Mass.) at number three doubles. The triumph marked the Corsairs’ 18th straight in the series with UMass Boston dating back to 2002.
UMass Dartmouth hosts Clark in a non-league dual-match on Thursday afternoon on the UMD Courts beginning at 3:30 pm, while UMass Boston hosts Thomas in a non-league dual-match on Monday afternoon in Boston that begins at Noon.
