DANBURY, Conn. -- Senior Jenna Lahaie (Lakeville, Mass.) and junior Monika Reining (Linsengericht, Germany) each triumphed in both singles and doubles action to lead UMass Dartmouth to a 7-2 Little East Conference women’s tennis dual-match victory over Western Connecticut Sunday afternoon on the Westside Courts.
Lahaie improved to 7-2 on the season at the number one singles spot for the visiting Corsairs (5-4, 3-3 LEC) with a three-set win, while Reining collected her sixth overall singles decision with a straight-set triumph at the number four position. Sophomores Michelle and Rachel Aftandilian (Watertown, Mass.), along with fellow sophomore Emma Sokolovsky (Canton, Mass.), also collected singles victories while dropping just five games combined for UMass Dartmouth, as Lahaie and junior Jaime Fastino (Rehoboth, Mass.) eked out a 9-7 win at number one doubles to improve to 7-2 as a tandem. Reining and junior Melanie Wong (Somerset, Mass.) notched the other point of the day for the visitors with an 8-0 triumph at number three doubles.
Senior Carole Allers (Wilton, Conn.) picked up the lone singles win on the day in the setback for the host Colonials (1-7, 1-4 LEC), while the junior duo of Pooja Dudhedia (Brookfield, Conn.) and Sarah Warkoski (Bristol, Conn.) claimed an 8-6 victory at the number two doubles spot for Western Connecticut.
UMass Dartmouth hosts Bridgewater State in a Little East dual-match on Tuesday afternoon on the UMD Courts beginning at 3:00 pm, while Western Connecticut travels to Providence, R.I. on Tuesday afternoon for a Little East dual-match with Rhode Island College that begins at 3:30 pm.
