NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's women's tennis team didn't lose a set and defeated visiting Southern Maine, 9-0, in a first round Little East Conference match at the UMass Dartmouth Athletic Complex Tuesday.
The Corsairs won all three doubles matches, which were played first. Sophomore Amy Lopes (Dartmouth, MA/ Dartmouth HS) and senior Becky Bullock (Wrentham, MA/King Phillip Regional HS) won their matches without losing a game. Lopes and Bullock defeated Erica Robertson and Melissa Ford, 8-0, at number one doubles. Lopes defeated Robertson at number one singles, 6-0, 6-0, and Bullock downed Amanda Coleman at number two singles, 6-0, 6-0.
"We got off to a good start by winning all of the doubles, which put us up, 3-0," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Ralph Perry. "All of our players performed as expected."
UMass Dartmouth improved to 12-1 with the victory, while the Huskies dropped to 1-11 with the defeat. The Corsairs will host the Little East Conference final four Saturday and Sunday. UMass Dartmouth will play Western Connecticut State in a semi-final match Saturday afternoon.
