PLYMOUTH, NH-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's women's tennis team won all six singles matches and defeated host Plymouth State, 8-1, in a Little East Conference match at the PSU Fieldhouse Friday.
The Corsairs took two of three doubles matches, and then won the first three singles matches to clinch the win in the match, which was moved indoors due to inclement weather. Junior Amy Lopes (Dartmouth, MA/Dartmouth HS) defeated Sara Burke at number one singles, 6-3, 6-1, junior Amber Ubertini (Dalton, MA/Wahconah HS) defeated Lydia Smith at number two singles, 6-2, 6-1, and sophomore Kelsey Grossmann (Holliston, MA/Holliston HS) downed Rachel Figura at number three singles, 6-2, 6-1, to give the Corsairs their fifth point and clinch the win. Sophomore Courtney Morey (Mashpee, MA/Mashpee HS) won at number five singles, defeating Buffy Garland in a super-tiebreaker, 7-6, 0-6, (10-7), and freshman Juliet Levangie (Middleboro, MA/Coyle-Cassidy HS) won her first match at number six singles, defeating Shaine Cyr, 6-0, 6-1.
"Our singles lineup did an outstanding job," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Ralph Perry. "Amy Lopes got us going once again, Courtney came back and won in a super-tiebreaker, and Juliet came through with a big win at number six singles. Our team did a nice job."
The Corsairs improved to 3-0 and 2-0 in the Little East Conference with the victory, while the Panthers dropped to 0-5 and 0-3 in LEC play with the defeat. UMass Dartmouth will return to action when they host UMass Boston next Tuesday.
