LEICESTER, MA-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's women's tennis team used a couple of comebacks to blank host Worcester State, 9-0, in a non-conference match at the Becker College Tennis Courts Tuesday.
The Corsairs came from behind at number three doubles and at number three singles in recording the victory.
In doubles, sophomore Courtney Morey (Mashpee, MA/Mashpee HS) and junior Daniela Joggi (Stoneham, MA/Stoneham HS) overcame a 6-2 deficit to defeat Nicole Sellner and Danielle Lehman, 9-8, winning the tie-breaker by a 7-5 score. In singles, junior Blair Dalrymple (North Attleboro, MA/North Attleboro HS) rallied after losing the first set to defeat Courteney Blais, 6-7, 6-1, (10-4), prevailing on a super-tiebreaker after splitting sets.
"We made a nice comeback at number three doubles," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Ralph Perry. "Blair had a nice comeback in her singles match after she lost the first set."
Junior Amber Ubertini (Dalton, MA/Wahconah HS) won twice after moving up to the \#1 position in place of junior Amy Lopes (Dartmouth, MA/Dartmouth HS). Ubertini defeated Ashley Perkins at number one singles, 6-1, 6-1, and teamed with sophomore Kelsey Grossman (Holliston, MA/Holliston HS) to down Perkins and Amy Mach at number one doubles, 8-3.
"We played well from top to bottom," said Perry. "We showed good stamina and good focus, and we're looking forward to playing Salem State next week."
The Corsairs improved to 5-2 with the victory, while the Lancers dropped to 2-6 with the defeat. UMass Dartmouth will return to action when they visit Salem State next Tuesday.
