LEICESTER, MA-Trailing after the doubles matches, the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's women's tennis team swept all six singles matches and defeated host Becker, 7-2, in a non-conference match at the Becker Tennis Courts Wednesday. The victory was the fourth in a row for the Corsairs.
Morey then defeated Woodbury at number six singles, 6-0, 6-2, to tie the match. Ubertini put the Corsairs ahead when she downed Shauna McNally at number four, 6-2, 6-0, and freshman Angela Pollard (Portsmouth, RI/Portsmouth HS) allowed UMD to clinch the decision when she won against Danielle Stryker at number three singles, 6-1, 6-1.
"It was a nice win for us, considering that we had a few people who had classes, and didn't make the trip," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Ralph Perry. "Some of our other players got their chances, and they came through with flying colors. The pressure was on, and they tugged their end of the rope real hard and won it for us." The Corsairs improved to 8-1 with the victory, while the Hawks dropped to 11-5 with the defeat. UMass Dartmouth will return to action when they host Salem State Thursday.
