Oct. 11, 2010

NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-Senior Amy Lopes (Dartmouth, MA/Dartmouth HS) of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's women's tennis team has earned Little East Conference honors.

Lopes has been named LEC Women's Tennis Player of the Week.

Lopes was honored for her play last week in the Corsairs' only match against Bridgewater State. She teamed with junior Alexa Fiorita (Reading, MA/Reading HS) to defeat Lauren Donnelly and Jessica Francis at number one doubles, 8-6. In singles, Lopes defeated Donnelly at number one, 6-3, 6-2, as UMass Dartmouth won, 6-3, handing the Bears their first loss of the season. For the year, Lopes is 5-1 at number one singles and 5-0 at number one doubles.

"Amy's honor is well deserved," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Ralph Perry. "She is hard working and dedicated, both on and off the court. Her skills and leadership as captain have helped us, and good things should continue to come her way in the future."

The Corsairs defeated MCLA Monday, 9-0. UMass Dartmouth will host Newbury Tuesday.
