BOSTON, MA-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's indoor track and field team produced several strong performances on the second and final day of action at the two-day Open New England Championships at the Boston University Track and Tennis Center Saturday.
For the men, sophomore Chris Perry (Providence, RI/Dighton-Rehoboth HS/BCC) finished fifth in the triple jump at 48 feet, ½ inch, while sophomore Matt Hinthorne (Braintree, MA/Braintree HS) was seventh at 500 meters in 1:05.41. For the women, sophomore Jessica Masse (Somerville, MA/Somerville HS) was ninth in the shot put at 41 feet, 8 ¾ inches, while senior Courtney Testa (Hopkinton, MA/Hopkinton HS) was 10th at 3000 meters in 10:13.74.
"It's the second year in a row Chris has placed in the triple jump, and the second year in a row that Matt has scored in this meet," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Steve Gardiner. "Jessica Masse is rounding into form, this was the best series of throws she has had all season. Courtney continues to improve. Her performance today was a two second improvement over her previous best, which was the Little East Championships."
The Corsairs will return to action at the Eastern College Athletic Conference Championships next weekend.
