Junior Krista Chauvin (Seekonk, MA/Seekonk HS/Stonehill) was named LEC Women's Field Athlete of the Week, senior Jillian Van Ness (Agawam, MA/Agawam HS) was named LEC Women's Track Athlete of the Week, and Junior Brett Croteau (Dighton, MA/Dighton-Rehoboth HS) was named LEC Men's Field Athlete of the Week.
At last week's Minuteman Invitational, hosted by the University of Massachusetts, Chauvin broke the school record in the hammer with a toss of 181 feet, nine inches, and was also fifth in the discus at 132-7. Van Ness was a member of the 4 x 400 meter relay team finished sixth in a school record time of 4:05.23. Van Ness also set a school record when she finished fourth at 400 meters in 58.62 seconds. Croteau finished first in his event, winning the javelin with a throw of 193 feet, two inches.
"Krista continues to improve as the weather becomes more spring-like," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Steve Gardiner, "Her throw at UMass Amherst was her all-time best, and is the second best throw in the country to date. She is on a mission, and her work ethic is leading the way. It's good to see Jillian putting things together as we get to the end of her college career. She overcame injuries to have a good season indoors, and we are looking forward to the championship meets coming up in the near future. Brett is Mr. Consistency, he has placed in all four of his competitions this spring, he's currently ranked 12th in the country."
The Corsairs will return to action Saturday when they visit Connecticut College for the Silfen Invitational.
