WATERVILLE, ME—Another school record was broken as the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's track and field team competed on their first day of competition at the New England Division III Championships at Colby's Harold Alfond Stadium Friday.
Junior Krista Chauvin (Seekonk, MA/Seekonk HS/Stonehill) finished first in the hammer with a school record throw of 188 feet, 10 inches. The throw currently ranks first in the nation. Freshman Ashley Motta (Swansea, MA/Case HS), UMass Dartmouth's only other competitor on Friday, finished 14th in the javelin at 109 feet, four inches.
"Krista had a great warm up, she had two long throws in the warm up that were probably close to her winning throw," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Steve Gardiner. "She won the competition on her first throw, which was her best. We're very pleased with her performance. Ashley was a little disappointed with her throw, but she had a really nice year for a freshman and we're looking forward to her coming back and improving next year."
The meet will conclude Saturday.
