Krista Chauvin Earns National Track and Field Honor
NEW ORLEANS, LA--Junior Krista Chauvin (Seekonk, MA/Seekonk HS/Stonehill) of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's track and field team has earned a national honor.
Chauvin has earned honorable mention for the National Division III Women's Track and Field Athlete of the Week from the United States Track, Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
Chauvin was honored for her performance last Friday at the New England Division III Championships at Colby. She finished first in the hammer with a throw of 188 feet, 10 inches, breaking the school record with a throw that currently ranks first in the nation. Her throw ranks 10th on the all-time Division III list, according to the USTFCCCA.
"It was cool to see Krista recognized nationally by the coaches association," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Stave Gardiner. "She realizes that there is still a lot of work to do before nationals."
The Corsairs will return to action this weekend at the Open New England Championships at Stonehill.
