NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA--Two members of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's track and field team have earned weekly Little East Conference track and field honors.
Junior Krista Chauvin (Seekonk, MA/Seekonk HS/Stonehill) was named LEC Women's Field Athlete of the Week, while freshman Laquaysia Anderson-Jenkins (Brighton, MA/Brighton HS) was named LEC Women's Track Athlete of the Week.
Chauvin won the hammer throw at the Eastern College Athletic Conference Division III Championships at Springfield with a toss of 176 feet, eight inches. The weekly award was the seventh this outdoor season for Chauvin.
Anderson-Jenkins was a member of the 4 x 100 meter relay team that placed ninth at the ECAC Championships in 48.94 seconds, the second fastest time in program history. She also finished 14th at 200 meters in 25.47 seconds, the second fastest time in school history and just two-hundredths of a second off the school record held by senior Jillian Van Ness (Agawam, MA/Agawam HS). In addition, she ran 100 meters in 12.35 seconds, the third fastest time in school history. Both marks were personal bests.
"It's become routine for Krista to receive this award, even though there was nothing routine about her performance," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Steve Gardiner. "She has won every championship that she could so far this spring, and she enters national competition as the number one seed in the hammer."
"Laquaysia's award was very well-deserved," said Gardiner. "She has had an excellent freshman year capped with two personal bests in the 100 and the 200 at the ECAC Championships."
Chauvin and junior thrower Brett Croteau (Rehoboth, MA/Dighton-Rehoboth HS) will represent UMass Dartmouth at the NCAA Division III Championships this weekend.
