Carden Posts 2nd Fastest UMD Time In 500-Meter Run

BOSTON – The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's women's indoor track and field team competed at the prestigious David Hemery Valentine Invitational this evening at Boston University. The Corsairs registered several personal bests in a competitive field that included Division I, II, and III institutions.

Senior Krista Chauvin (Seekonk, Mass.) increased her seed by three positions in the weight throw to finish fifth overall with a toss of 52-03.50.

Freshman Hunter Carden (Branford, Conn.) posted the second fastest time in school history in the 500-meter run, tripping the timer at one minute, 20.63 seconds. Classmate Tammi Lynch (North Dighton, Mass.) crossed the finish line at one minute, 23.09 seconds to edge sophomore Summer Jones (East Bridgewater, Mass.) by 32 hundredths of a second.

UMass Dartmouth freshman Gelynne Berger (Somerville, Mass.) led four Corsairs in the 200-meter dash, producing a personal time of 26.25 seconds. Sophomore LaQuaysia Anderson-Jenkins (Brighton, Mass.) stopped the timer at 26.62 seconds, while classmates Barbara Okafor (Hyde Park, Mass.) and Michel-Le Meranda (Somerville, Mass.) each posted a personal best performance of 26.75 and 26.85 seconds, respectively.

Freshman Lucy Jensen (Boxborough, Mass.) paced UMD in the 400-meter dash, covering the distance with a season-low time of 63.07 seconds. Classmate Albertine Samson (Dorchester, Mass.) also registered her fastest time of the season (64.78 seconds).

Sophomore Caroline Daubitz (Feeding Hills, Mass.) led a trio of Corsairs in the mile event, when she crossed the finish line at three minutes, 16.71 seconds. Freshman Jennifer Miranda (New Bedford, Mass.) turned a personal best of 3:19.29, while classmate Reme DiGiovanni (Southborough, Mass.) also clocked a personal best time (5:37.37).

In one of the final events of the evening, the UMass Dartmouth 4x400-meter relay team posted a combined time of four minutes, 6.96 seconds.

The Corsairs will return to action at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 15, when UMass Dartmouth competes at the 2014 New England Alliance and Little East Championships.
