Chauvin Breaks UMass Dartmouth School Record

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- Senior Krista Chauvin (Seekonk, Mass.) broke the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth women's weight throw record this afternoon to power the Corsairs at the 2014 New England Division III Championships.

UMass Dartmouth compiled 14 total points to place 15th overall in the 28-team field.  Williams College captured the team title with 150 points, outdistancing themselves from MIT (119) and Tufts University (94).

Chauvin established a new Corsairs standard with her first attempt of the afternoon, registering a mark of 17.16 meters (56-03.75).  She surpassed her previous record of 17.11 meters (56-01.75) from the 2014 Little East Conference Championships last weekend in Gorham, Maine.  Chauvin registered the second best mark in the 29-person field, falling to Eph's Avril Amine (18.12 meters).

The 4x200-meter quartet completed the UMass Dartmouth scoring with a third-place performance.  Sophomore LaQuaysia Anderson-Jenkins (Brighton, Mass.), classmate Barbara Okafor (Hyde Park, Mass.), sophomore Michel-Le Meranda (Somerville, Mass), and freshman Gelynne Berger (Somerville, Mass.) combined for a time of one minute, 46.10 seconds, lowering their qualifying time by 0.15 seconds.

Junior Meghan Cutler (Attleboro, Mass.) registered a personal best in the high jump event, clearing 1.55 meters (5-1.00) to place 15th overall.

UMass Dartmouth will return to action on Friday, Feb. 28, when the Corsairs compete at the 2014 New England Open Championships.
