Chauvin Earns Berth Into 2014 NCAA Championship Field

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. -- University of Massachusetts Dartmouth senior Krista Chauvin (Seekonk, Mass.) qualified for the 2014 NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships in the weight throw event this morning, when the NCAA Division III Men's and Women's Indoor Track and Field Selection Committee announced the national performance list. 

The NCAA Division III Men's and Women's Indoor Track and Field Selection Committee accepted the top-17 declared female student-athletes in each individual event.  For each relay event contested, the top 12 declared relay teams, one per institution, were accepted into the competition.

The championships will be held between March 14 and 15 at Nebraska's Devaney Sports Center in Lincoln, Neb. with Nebraska Wesleyan serving as the official host.

Chauvin will enter the 2014 national championship as the 10th seed in the weight throw event.  She established the Corsairs' program record at the Division III New England Championships with a second-place mark of 17.16 meters (56-03.75).  Chauvin had previously set the UMass Dartmouth standard at the New England Alliance and Little East Conference Championships with a throw of 17.11 meters (56-01.15). 

She geared up for the NCAA Championships with a fourth place performance at the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships, covering a distance of 16.74 meters (54-11).  A week earlier, she was third at the New England Open Championship with a mark of 52-04.25.

The NCAA will provide a video broadcast of the entire 2014 NCAA Division III Championships, beginning at noon on Friday, March 14.
