Track Shines at Terrier Invitational

BOSTON, MA-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's indoor track and field team broke three school records on the first day of action at the two-day Terrier Classic at the Boston University Track and Tennis Center Friday. The women competed Friday, and the men will compete Saturday. No team scores were recorded at the meet.

Freshman Ezra Banks (Boston, MA/Newton South HS) was 12th in the 60 meter dash in 8.10 seconds. Banks' mark broke the school record. .Sophomore Jillian Van Ness (Agawam, MA/Agawam HS) ran 200 meters in 26.94 seconds, and she won her heat and broke the school record. At 5000 meters, sophomore Kim Urena (Marlborough, MA/Marlborough HS) finished 18th overall; and her time of 1:19.56 established a school record.

Junior Meagan Bohigian (Barre, MA/Quabbin Regional HS) ran 1000 meters in 3:09.06. Her mark was the second best all-time at UMass Dartmouth, and allowed her to qualify for the Division III New England Championships. In the shot put, freshman Jessica Masse (Somerville, MA/Somerville HS) was seventh at 40 feet, seven inches

"To set three school records and to have Meagan Bohigian run the second best 1000 in school history,. I'm definitely pleased with how the day went today," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Steve Gardiner. "We came here to compete at one of the best facilities in the country, we had some great performances, and we accomplished what we came here for. It was a nice start for the weekend."

The Corsairs will return to BU when the meet concludes Saturday with the men's competition.
