SPRINGFIELD, MA-A member of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's outdoor track and field team is 11th out of entrants after the first day of competition in the heptathlon competition at Blake Track Friday.
Freshman Kristina Lundquist (Yarmouthport, MA/Dennis-Yarmouth HS) has 1850 points after the first four events. The final three events of the competition are tomorrow.
Lundquist finished the 100 meter hurdles in 18.05 seconds, high jumped four feet, 3 ½ inches, threw the shot put 29 feet, 9 ½ inches, and ran 200 meters in 30.04 seconds.
"Kristina did pretty much the way she did in qualifying," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Steve Gardiner. "She actually had a little trouble on the third hurdle, and rebounded well from that and got herself going. It was a credit to her that she was able to do that. She is one of only freshmen in the field, so she is one of the two best freshmen heptathletes in Division III in New England. Today was a good experience for her to build upon, and hopefully, she can finish strong tomorrow."
The conclusion of the heptathlon and the rest of the meet will take place Saturday.
