Little East Honors Three Corsairs in Track and Field

Jan. 25, 2010

NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-Three members of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's indoor track and field team have earned Little East Conference honors.

Sophomore Robert Yarbough (Fall River, MA/Durfee HS) was named Little East Conference men's field athlete of the week. Junior Jermai Harrison (Brockton, MA/Brockton HS) was named LEC Field Athlete of the Week, while freshman Kim Urena (Marlborough, MA/Marlborough HS) was named LEC Women's Rookie Track Athlete of the Week.

At Saturday's Springfield Invitational, Yarbough finished first in the shot put at 47 feet, 3 ¾ inches, the third best throw ever at UMD. Harrison won the shot put with a throw of 40 feet, 1 ½ inches and qualified for the ECAC Championships, while Urena set a school record while finishing third at 600 meters in 1:43.69, and qualifying for the Division III New England Championships.

"Jermai's been a quality thrower for us for two years, and is consistently right around 40 feet," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Steve Gardiner. "We're proud of what she's done the last two years, and we're not surprised she won this award. Robert is in his first year for us indoors and he's just scratching the surface of his potential. He will continue to improve as the year progresses. Kim is coming off an injury in her first individual race of the year. She has an excellent work ethic, and as her training continues, her times will improve."

The Corsairs will return to action Friday evening at the Boston Indoor Games at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston.
