NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-Freshman Shannon Singletary (Brockton, MA/Brockton HS) of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's track and field team has been honored by the Little East Conference.
Singletary has been named Little East Conference Female Rookie Track and Field Athlete of the Week.
Singletary was a member of the first place 4 x 400 meter relay team at last week's Bryant Invitational, joining junior Linee Mello-Frost (New Bedford, MA/New Bedford HS), freshman Jillian Van Ness (Agawam, MA/Agawam HS), and junior Briley Morrill (Whitman, MA/Whitman-Hanson Regional HS) to win in 52.78 seconds. She also was second at 100 meters in 13.13 seconds.
"After she was a solid contributor for our women's basketball team, it was nice to see Shannon get off to a good start for us in her first collegiate meet," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Steve Gardiner. "She was at Brockton High School when I was at New Bedford High, and it was nice to see a Big Three student-athlete do well for us.:
The Corsairs will return to action when they host the UMD Invitational this Saturday.
