NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-Two members of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's outdoor track and field teams have been honored by the Little East Conference.
Sophomore Linee Mello-Frost (New Bedford, MA/New Bedford HS) has been named Little East Conference Women's Track Athlete of the Week, and freshman Megan Oliveira (Somerset, MA/Somerset HS) has been named LEC Women's Track Rookie of the Week.
Both student-athletes were victorious at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational last week. Mello-Frost won the 100 meter hurdles in 16.73 seconds, while Oliveira finished first at 800 meters in 2:36.77. Mello-Frost's time qualified her for the Division III New England Championships.
"I'm very happy, and proud of the accomplishments of both of our student-athletes," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Steve Gardiner. "They both performed well in adverse weather conditions. For Linee to be able to get a Division III qualifying time in the hurdles in those conditions bodes well for the future. For Megan, it was a nice breakthrough for her to be able to win an invitational 800."
The Corsairs will return to action at Connecticut College next Saturday.
