NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-Two members of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's outdoor track and field teams have been honored by the Little East Conference.
Sophomore Linee Mello-Frost (New Bedford, MA/New Bedford HS) has been named Little East Conference Women's Track Athlete of the Week, and sophomore Jermai Harrison (Brockton, MA/Brockton HS) has been named LEC Women's Field Athlete of the Week.
Harrison broke the UMass Dartmouth record in the outdoor shot put when she finished first at last week's Silfen Invitational with a throw of 39 feet, 3 ½ inches. She also finished third in the discus at 108 feet, four inches. Mello-Frost, who was honored for the second week in a row, finished first in the 100 meter hurdles at the Silfen Invitational in 15;34 seconds. That performance qualified her for the Eastern College Athletic Conference championships. She also was a member of the 4 x 100 meter relay team, which finished fourth in 52.45 seconds.
"I'm very proud of both Jermai and Linee," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Steve Gardiner. "Jermai has had an incredible indoor and outdoor season, and she now owns both the indoor and the outdoor school record for the shot put. Linee has been making steady progress throughout the outdoor season, and she qualified for the ECACs in the hurdles. Hopefully, she will post her best times at the end of the season."
The Corsairs will return to action at the Little East Conference and New England Alliance Championships this Saturday.
