Senior middle blocker Cami Ascher
WILLIMANTIC, CT-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's volleyball team dropped a tough, five-set decision to host Eastern Connecticut State in a Little East Conference match at Geissler Gymnasium Tuesday evening. The Warriors prevailed, 22-25, 25-11, 23-25, 25-19 and 15-5.
Senior middle blocker Cami Ascher (Natick, MA/Natick HS) had 14 kills for UMass Dartmouth, while senior outside hitter Allie Mastrocola (Swansea, MA/Case HS) added six. Junior setter Jess Goncalves (New Bedford, MA/New Bedford HS) had 25 assists, senior libero Shannon Brodie (Chelmsford, MA/Chelmsford HS) had 15 digs, and Mastrocola had two blocks.
"We couldn't get any consistency going in the fifth set," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Steve DeRossi. "Jess could have had more assists if we had been more efficient hitting at the net. We gave away too many points in both the second and the fifth set. We have three home matches remaining, and hopefully, we can play well for our home fans."
The Corsairs will hold Senior Night Thursday against Rivier, and will host Play for the Cure Saturday when they host Western Connecticut State and Framingham State.
The Corsairs fell to 13-15 and 1-5 in the Little East Conference with the defeat, while the Warriors improved to 17-9 and 2-4 with the victory. UMass Dartmouth will return to action when they host Rivier Thursday.
