BRIDGEWATER, MA-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's volleyball team won their 11th consecutive match, defeating host Bridgewater State in three close sets at the Adrian Tinsley Center Thursday evening. The Corsairs prevailed, 26-24, 25-23 and 25-19.
For UMD, .junior middle blocker Tahirah Gibson (Norwood, MA/Norwood HS) and freshman outside hitter Brianna Perry (New Bedford, MA/New Bedford HS) each had nine kills, while freshman outside hitter Eliza Bowes (West Yarmouth, MA/Dennis-Yarmouth HS) contributed seven. .Senior setter Jess Goncalves (New Bedford, MA/New Bedford HS) had 32 assists and 13 digs, while Gibson added four blocks.
"We started slowly and fell behind in all three sets, but we came back to win," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Steve DeRossi. "I was a little worried about this match, since we came in undefeated and regionally ranked and we were going up against a quality team, but we came through and we were able to avoid the upset. It was a good performance overall, and I was pleased with the win."
The Corsairs improved to 11-0 with the victory, while the Bears dropped to 4-5 with the defeat.
UMass Dartmouth will return to action when they visit Plymouth State Saturday.
