PLYMOUTH, NH-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's volleyball team split a pair of matches against host Plymouth State and Maine-Farmington in a tri-match at Foley Gymnasium Saturday.
The Corsairs fell to the Panthers, 25-11, 25-17 and 25-17, then defeated the Beavers, 25-17, 25-11, 22-25 and 25-17.
Against PSU, senior setter Jess Goncalves (New Bedford, MA/New Bedford HS) and freshman outside hitter Stephanie Antoine (New Bedford, MA/Greater New Bedford Vo tech HS) each had five kills, Goncalves had 18 assists and freshman hitters Alexis Ruest (Coventry, RI/Coventry HS) and Linsay Boulay (Swansea, MA/Case HS) each had seven digs.
In the match against UMF, Antoine had nine kills, freshman outside hitter Eliza Bowes (West Yarmouth, MA/Dennis-Yarmouth HS) added eight, and Goncalves had 16 assists, 15 digs and two blocks.
"We picked a bad day to play our worst match of the year," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Steve DeRossi. "The bus ride might have taken a little bit out of us. In the second match, we had chances to use people off the bench. We played better in the second match."
The Corsairs are now 12-1 and 1-1 in the Little East Conference, while Plymouth State is now 5-8 and 1-1 in LEC play and Maine-Farmington is 2-7.
UMass Dartmouth will return to action when they visit Lesley Tuesday.
