Volleyball Suffers Setbacks to Western and Lasell

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass.-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's volleyball team dropped two matches, 3-0 and 3-1, to visiting Western Connecticut and Lasell College Saturday afternoon at the Tripp Athletic Center.

In the conference match up with the Colonials, the Corsairs lost 25-12, 25-19 and 25-16. For UMass Dartmouth, Eliza Bowes (West Yarmouth, Mass./Dennis-Yarmouth) registered six kills, Carina Filosa (Milford, Mass./ Milford) managed 12 digs, and Christina Spinazola (Medway, Mass./Medway) recorded nine assists.  

The Colonials were led by Karissa Smith with nine kills and six digs, Nina Wojtkiewicz with eight kills and 11 digs, and Jenny Hogan who distributed 30 assists.

In the non-conference match up with the Lasers, the Corsairs managed to win the second set of the contest, 25-20, but dropped the first, third and fourth, 25-11, 27-17, and 25-15.

For UMass Dartmouth, Tahira Gibson (Norwood, Mass./Norwood) had nine kills, Spinazola dished out 27 assists, and Filosa notched 14 digs.

For Lasell, Abigail Rollins had 16 kills, Jordan Sneid recorded 22 digs, and Alyssa Nahigian had 37 assists.  

UMass Dartmouth will return to action when they travel to Curry College on Thursday.
