MILTON, Mass. -- Sophomore Eliza Bowes (West Yarmouth, Mass.) recorded 12 kills to power the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth volleyball team to a 3-1 victory at Curry College this evening at the Student Center Gymnasium.
The Corsairs (2-9) defeated the Colonels (6-10) by the score of 26-24, 25-22, 21-25, and 25-20.
Bowes led the visitors with 12 winners on seven errors to post a 12.8 hitting percentage. Classmate Brianna Perry (New Bedford, Mass.) also reached double figures in kills with 10, while freshman Christina Spinazola (Medway, Mass.) piloted the attack with 31 assists. On the other end of the court, sophomore Carina Filosa (Milford, Mass.) recorded a game-high 41 digs, while Perry posted 24.
In the back and fourth first set, UMass Dartmouth outlasted Curry 26-24. The Corsairs were able to edge the Colonels in the second set with a 25-22 win. The hosts maintained a steady lead throughout the third set to force a fourth set. Unfazed by the marching Colonels, UMass Dartmouth clinched the match with a 25-20 victory.
UMass Dartmouth will return to action at 11 a.m. on Sept. 28, when the Corsairs host Little East rival Plymouth State University. UMass Dartmouth will also compete against Husson University (3 p.m.) during the 2013 Homecoming Weekend.
