DARTMOUTH, Mass. – In the Corsairs' first home tri-match of the season, the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth emerged with a split, falling 3-1 to LEC foe Plymouth State before handing Curry a 3-0 decision later in the afternoon.

How it Happened

UMass Dartmouth battled for a 25-23 second set to even the match, but Plymouth State edged out a 25-23 third set before taking the fourth.
The Panthers jumped out to a quick 25-19 win in the first set, firing off 13 kills while holding the Corsairs to merely seven. In the next set, junior Amanda LaCroix (East Freetown, Mass.) registered eight of her 14 kills to help the Corsairs pull even. UMass Dartmouth went up 12-8 on four Meghan Mullinax (Lake Balboa, Calif.) serves before the visitors bumped back in front 22-17.
Two LaCroix kills during Jillian Sykora's (Waterford, Conn.) culminated five-straight Corsair points, and UMass Dartmouth clinched the set with the final two points.
In the third set, Plymouth State erased a 19-14 deficit as Brenna Peruch (Cave Creek, Ariz.) served to eight-straight Panther points, and the lead held for a 25-23 margin in favor of the visitors. Plymouth State then completed 9-of-20 (.350) attempts in the fourth set to prevail 25-15.
Sophomore setter Jordan Rittberger (Huntington, N.Y.) registered every assist for UMass Dartmouth on the match, totaling 30, while Sykora dug 17 balls. Sophomore Nicole Silverman (Chelmsford, Mass.) added eight kills with 11 digs.

The Corsairs rebounded in the nightcap, capturing two 26-24 sets before finishing off the Colonels 25-14 to win their second home match of the season.
The first set featured a tri-match high 15 kills for UMass Dartmouth, who jumped to out a 3-0 lead before Curry evened the play. Neither team held more than a two-point advantage until the end of the set, when Sykora drew the Corsairs even at 24 and Silverman and LaCroix kills gave the hosts the lead.
Both teams continued to battle closely in the second. With the score tied at 23, Silverman stepped in for a service ace and LaCroix claimed the match with back-to-back kills. The third set was merely elementary, as UMass Dartmouth never looked back following a 6-0 start with three aces by Sykora.
LaCroix again powered UMass Dartmouth with 14 kills, with Silverman tacking on 10 as the duo combined for 22 digs. Sykora tallied another 17-dig match with Rittberger serving up 27 assists.
