BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Senior Kayla Baril (Seekonk, Mass.) notched 10 kills, three digs and a pair of block solos to lead Bridgewater State to a come-from-behind 3-2 non-league college volleyball victory over UMass Dartmouth Tuesday evening at the Tinsley Center.
After dropping the opening two sets by scores of 25-21 and 25-20, the host Bears (3-8) eked out a 25-23 third set win before claiming the final two frames by margins of 25-17 and 15-11. Senior Grace Stafford (Yarmouth, Mass.) added a double-double effort of 10 kills, 16 digs and four service aces for Bridgewater State, which received 10 kills and four digs from sophomore Alexis Duarte (Fairhaven, Mass.). Junior Erin Clifford (Hanson, Mass.) chipped in with nine kills for the hosts, who received a combined 36 set assists and 10 digs each from senior Picabo Miskiv (Barnstable, Mass.) and sophomore Casey Holmes (Norton, Mass.) along with 30 digs and seven set assists from senior Cassidy Tyros (Chelmsford, Mass.).
Junior Nicole Silverman (Chelmsford, Mass.) registered a double-double effort of 16 kills, 16 digs and two service aces in the setback for the visiting Corsairs (6-9), who also received a double-double performance of 10 kills and 20 digs from senior Amanda LaCroix (East Freetown, Mass.). Junior Samantha Sedano (Valley Glen, Calif.) collected nine kills on the night for UMass Dartmouth, which received four kills each from senior Kristy Walton (Fairhaven, Mass.) and freshman Mallory Singer (Succasunna, N.J.). Sophomore Riley Thomas (Fairhaven, Mass.) recorded 35 set assists, six digs, five kills and a pair of service aces for the visitors, who received 22 digs from junior Jillian Sykora (Waterford, Conn.) along with 17 digs from fellow junior Jordan Rittberger (Huntington, N.Y.).
UMass Dartmouth travels to Keene, N.H. on Saturday afternoon to take on Keene State and Maine-Presque Isle in tri-match action beginning at Noon, while Bridgewater State will be idle until next Tuesday, October 9th when the Bears head to Framingham, Mass. to square off with Framingham State in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference clash that begins at 6:00 pm.
