Sykora Records 1,000th Dig As Volleyball Falls To Colby-Sawyer

DARTMOUTH, Mass. --  Junior Rebecca Straubel (Altamont, N.Y.) recorded eight kills, 13 digs and a pair of service aces to lead Colby-Sawyer to a 3-0 non-league college volleyball victory over UMass Dartmouth by game scores of 25-19, 25-16 and 25-21 in a match played Thursday evening at the Tripp Athletic Center.

Junior Naarah Cox (Boston, Mass.) added seven kills in the triumph for the visiting Chargers (9-7), who received five kills, 11 digs and four block assists from freshman Maddie Bromley (Truckee, Calif.) along with three kills from senior Courtney Murray (Quincy, Mass.).  Freshman Anna Allen (Los Angeles, Calif.) collected 21 set assists, 11 digs and four service aces on the night for Colby-Sawyer, which received 16 digs from freshman Charlotte Frivoll (Essex Junction, Vt.).

Junior Nicole Silverman (Chelmsford, Mass.) notched eight kills and 11 digs in the setback for the host Corsairs (5-8), who received five kills and 12 digs from senior Amanda LaCroix (East Freetown, Mass.) as well as five kills from senior Kristy Walton (Fairhaven, Mass.).  Sophomore Riley Thomas (Fairhaven, Mass.) chipped in with 14 set assists and five digs for UMass Dartmouth, while junior Jillian Sykora (Waterford, Conn.) posted nine digs, including the 1,000th of her career, in the contest.

UMass Dartmouth hosts the University of New England in a non-league match on Saturday afternoon at the Tripp Athletic Center beginning at 1:00 pm, while Colby-Sawyer heads into Boston on Saturday morning for a tri-match with host Suffolk and Massachusetts Maritime that begins at 11:00 am.
