NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's volleyball team defeated visiting Lasell, 3-0, in a non-conference match at the Tripp Athletic Center Tuesday evening.
The Corsairs swept the Lasers in three games, 25-22, 25-8 and 25-23.
Junior outside hitter Allie Mastrocola (Swansea, MA/Case HS) had 14 kills, senior outside hitter Eleni Tsaparakis (Norwalk, CT/Norwalk HS) and junior Cami Ascher (Natick, MA/Natick HS) added nine kills each. Senior outside hitter Lauren Safioleas (New Bedford, MA/New Bedford HS) had five service aces. Sophomore setter Jess Goncalves (New Bedford, MA/New Bedford HS) had 35 assists.
"We knew that [Lasell] were scrappy but we also knew that if we could pressure their serve reception, we could take them out of some of their offense, and we did a really good job and served them tough," said Corsairs Head Coach Steve DeRossi. "The biggest factor in the win was the same factor as it has been all year and that's the tremendous desire of the team."
The Corsairs improved to 13-1 with the victory, while the Lasers dropped to 6-7 with the defeat. UMass Dartmouth will return to action when they travel to the Johnson & Wales Tournament this weekend. Lasell will visit Emmanuel Thursday evening.
