PROVIDENCE, RI-Host Rhode Island College broke a 1-1 tie by winning the third game and went on to defeat the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's volleyball team, 25-18, 18-25, 25-21 and 25-15, in a Little East Conference volleyball match at the Murray Athletic Center Tuesday evening.
Sophomore outside hitter Allie Mastrocola (Swansea, MA/Case HS) led the Corsairs with 11 kills, freshman setter Jess Goncalves (New Bedford, MA/New Bedford HS) had 24 assists, and sophomore libero Shannon Brodie (Chelmsford, MA/Chelmsford HS) had 19 digs.
"It was disappointing," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Steve DeRossi. "We played well in the second game, but that's how we should have played all the way through. We had too many errors. Shannon played well defensively, but we but we didn't play with the fire that we needed to."
UMass Dartmouth dropped to 11-6 and 0-3 in the Little East Conference with the defeat, while Rhode Island College improved to 12-10 and 2-0 with the victory. The Corsairs will return to action when they host Regis Friday evening.
