NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's volleyball team swept visiting Regis in three games in a non-conference volleyball match at the Tripp Athletic Center Tuesday evening. The Corsairs won, 25-8, 25-20 and 25-13.
Sophomore middle hitter Cami Ascher (Natick, MA/Natick HS) led the Corsairs with nine kills and five service aces, junior outside hitter Lauren Safioleas (New Bedford, MA/New Bedford HS) added eight kills, freshman setter Jess Goncalves (New Bedford, MA/New Bedford HS) had 15 assists and sophomore setter Katie Amalfi (Holliston, MA/Holliston HS) had nine, junior outside hitter Eleni Tsaparakis (Norwalk, CT/Norwalk HS) had three service aces, and sophomore libero Shannon Brodie (Chelmsford, MA/Chelmsford HS) had eight digs.
"In the first and third games, the key was the pressure we put on their serve receive," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Steve DeRossi. "We played like a team and we sounded like a team, and some of the people who haven't had much playing time were stellar today."
UMass Dartmouth improved to 12-6 with the victory, while Regis dropped to 6-17 with the defeat. The Corsairs will return to action when they host Husson and Salem State in a three-way match Saturday.
